Celebrating Ghana’s Independence: A Festive Fufu Party at Sal Hostel

On the March 6, 2024, Ghana commemorated its 67th Independence.  Ghanaians gather to celebrate their independence and the distinction of being the first nation in West Africa.

Let’s dive into the celebration that took place at Sal Hostel in KNUST Obuasi Campus.

During the 67th Independence Day celebration, Sal Hostel took the festivities to a whole new level. Everyone dressed up in stunning Ghanaian-made attire and hosted a Fufu party.

Fufu is a popular Ghanaian dish, especially among the Ashanti people. It’s made by pounding boiled cassava and boiled plantain and is typically enjoyed with soups like light soup, palm nut soup, and groundnut soup.

The ladies gathered under the hostel’s shed to prepare a mouthwatering chicken and beef light soup, while the gentlemen lent a hand by pounding the Fufu.

To cater to those who could not eat Fufu, the ladies also prepared a few balls of Banku, which could be enjoyed with the light soup.

At 6 PM, the Fufu party kicked off! The meals were served in bowls, and everyone gathered around to enjoy the feast together. To quench their thirst, chilled Ghanaian soft drinks were served after the meal.

The Independence Day celebration at Sal Hostel was a true representation of the joy and pride Ghanaian feel on this special day.

The vibrant display of Ghanaian-made clothing, the delicious fufu and light soup, and the camaraderie shared among hostel mates created a memorable experience.

It was a moment of unity, celebration, and appreciation for Ghana’s independence. This festive fufu party truly showcased the spirit of Ghana and the pride of its people. Cheers to many more years of freedom and celebration!
