Let’s relive the incredible hostel orientation experience for first-year students at Sal Hostel. From meeting the amazing hostel management and hostel executives to exploring Obuasi. This orientation was truly one for the books. So, let’s dive in and discover all the highlights of this awesome event.
On January 13th, 2024, we had an awesome hostel orientation for first-year students! It started at 10 am, and the hostel executives introduced themselves. Madam Remi Salifu, our hostel manageress, congratulated the first-year students on their admission to KNUST and getting accommodation in the best hostel. She stressed the importance of keeping the hostel rooms and surroundings clean. There are some restrictions on electrical gadgets like washing machines, hot plates, and microwaves, but students with medical reports can still use kettles. Madam Remi also went over the hostel rules and emphasized, “while we have rights and privileges in the hostel, it’s important to remember that they are limited. By obeying the hostel rules, we can ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone.”
She had a cool interactive conversation with us, where we made some requests like having a snooker and console. She also talked about neighborhood security and advised us to use appropriate routes and move in groups at night.
After that, the hostel driver, Uncle George, went over the bus rules with us and stressed the importance of being on time for him to take us to campus before lectures start.
Sylvanus, the entertainment manager, shared a list of exciting activities planned for the semester. The social media managers, myself and Ebenezer encouraged everyone to follow our hostel’s social media accounts and get involved in content creation.
Noel, our Hostel President, wrapped up the talk by addressing first aid and what to do in case of any injury. He advised us to share our medical status with roommates to help in case of emergencies. The orientation ended with a tour around the hostel and later a tour in Obuasi, where we had a blast enjoying cold drinks with biscuits. We visited important places like tourist sites in Obuasi, KNUST Obuasi Campus, and the town library.
It was truly an amazing orientation for all of us.
